For my vessel I used clay and painted it with acrylic paint. I glazed the inside of the bowl and used glass beads to mosaic the top. My favorite part is that underneath the lid I sculpted a starfish.
For this project I used a paper towel roll for the tower with a box on top. The bottom was styrofoam. I used acrylic paint to paint the tower and ground. The prince and horse were made out of clay. The hair was yarn.
For this piece I individually sculpted each facial figure and then hung them from a picture frame. I thought that it looked really cool but others thought it looked very creepy. I painted each figure front and back with acrylic paint but I used water colors on the irises of the eyes. I then continued to splatter the nose and eyes with blue and red paint because I thought it looked unique. I added fake eyelashes to the eyes to make it more realistic looking. I also added this glaze stuff over the eyeballs to make them look shiny. I am pleased with the outcome of this project. Although, if I were to do it again, I would probably find a different way to mount it.
For this mini project I chose to make a sloth. I did this because I really like sloths. I texturized it by using a fork. I think this worked really well because it looked like a real sloth. I used acrylic paint all over it. If I was to do this again, I would glaze the eyes to make it look even more realistic. Overall I was very satisfied with the final outcome and I love my sloth.
My final relief project was a mixture of high and low relief. It was a lizard that was made into four tiles. You can see the low relief in the engraved shaped on each tile. The high relief is found in the way that the lizard almost comes off of the slabs. I scored and slipped the lizard onto the tiles to make it appear this way. I used glazed the lizard in a green paint with blue glass in it which made it look really cool. I used acrylic paint in the background to make the lizard pop out more. I melted glass into the shaped in the ground. I really like the way this piece turned out and I feel like all my hard work really paid off.
My clay tile used both high and low relief. I scored and slipped most of the snail onto the tile and then I engraved the design in the background. Overall I had an okay time with this mini project. I glazed the whole thing in bright colors but if I were to do it again I would've used acrylic paint on some of it. I think this would've added some more dimension to it.
The cardboard mini project was an example of low relief. We used exacto blades to cut through cardboard and peel away certain layers. I was not very good at the layering part because I did not realize how sensitive the cardboard was when you went to go peel it. If I knew that before, it probably would've turned out better. I used paint and charcoal to make it look better and although the end result wasn't exactly what I wanted, I am still proud of it.
This styrogami mini piece we did in class was very interesting. Although I had never heard about styrogami before I was very eager to try it out. I learned how to cut styrofoam with an exacto-blade. To do this, you need to be very careful because styrofoam is fragile. I also learned that you can't use certain kinds of glue on styrofoam. The kind I was using ended up corroding my cup. This is something I wish I knew earlier. But besides the glue, I had an overall good expirience with this pro
